How do I create a Section-Perspective view in Revit?

Answer

Revit introduced the ability to toggle 3D or Camera views between perspective and orthographic.

Procedure

  • In a floor plan view, place a new section where you want the section cut to be and name it to your liking.
    • Ensure the extents of the section surround the portion of the building you want to display (length, width, height)
  • Create a new 3D view or open a 3D view to modify
  • Set the “Projection Mode” to “perspective”.
  • Right click on the View Cube icon.
  • Go to ‘Orient to View’ and choose the section you created.
    • The orientation of the view will change to that of the section. Orbit and zoom as desired to get your desired point of view.
    • Adjust visibility/graphics as needed.
    • Add shadows, adjust lighting, etc. as needed.

Answer for Revit 2018 and Earlier

Follow these steps to create the Section-Perspective view you want.

  • From a floor plan view, create a 3D Camera view. (View>3D View>Camera) and place this camera in the direction of the section-perspective you want to use for the section-perspective.
    • Ensure the extent of the view is as far as you desire.
    • The camera view should automatically open after placing the camera. If not, open the new camera view.
  • Open a plan view and tile (WT) your windows so you can see this next step easier.
  • In the 3D Camera view, check the box for Section Box.
  • Select the section box and it will display in the plan view.
  • Adjust the section box in the plan and section view as desired.
    • Adjust visibility/graphics as needed.
    • Add shadows, adjust lighting, etc. as needed.
