Can I toggle Revit View Templates Off Temporarily?

Yes! On the View Control Bar, the Third Symbol in from the Right is the Temporary View Properties tool. When you click on it, you can wither Enable Temporary View Properties which will temporarily suspend the View Template, or you can Temporarily Apply a Specific View Template. You can choose to use both actions whether a View Template is applied to the View or not.
When in Temporary View Properties Mode, the view will be outlined in purple with a note in the upper Left corner.
To exit Temporary View Properties mode, select the same icon used to enter the mode and select Restore View Properties. The View will have its original properties restored.
